"Seven die in SUV accident"

May 10 , 2004

A rented SUV went out of control on Sunday, causing the death of seven people. Two women and a child were fatally thrown from the Ford Explorer, with four more occupants dying inside of the vehicle. Of the seven SUV rollover deaths, three of the victims were children under the age of ten.

One of the deadliest crashes in Maine's history, the Explorer went out of control after clipping a car it was trying to pass, sending the SUV sideways then airborne before slamming into some trees in the median. The Explorer ended up landing on its roof and firefighters had to cut down some trees with chain saws in order to remove and turn the SUV back over.
